In the Beginning...
The idea for Peaks and Banks came to Kenn when he was on college visits with his daughter in North Carolina as they stopped into a Vineyard Vines store. Familiar with the company and brand (and knowing his daughter loved it), they went in to check it out...as if Kenn had a choice.
Reading the Vineyard Vines story that hung on the wall with a photo of Shep and Ian, Kenn loved the part where they found themselves miserable sitting behind desks in Manhattan and decided to trade-in their business suits for bathing suits. They started selling ties so they wouldn't have to wear them. Nice twist. Or, would that be a knot? As Vineyard Vines started out with ties, he went over to the tie section. Their ties captured some of the iconic elements of Martha’s Vineyard and activities associated with the lifestyle of the northeastern seaboard.
This got him thinking. What if there was a company like Vineyard Vines that captured the iconic elements of the mountain lifestyle? What if there was a cool company that created a line of apparel that allowed people to celebrate all the great moments they experience on mountain peaks, riverbanks and everywhere in-between?
What's In a Name and Logo?
While coming up with a name, we realized that all of the things we love to do happen somewhere between the peak of a mountain and the bank of a river. So, that's how we landed on Peaks and Banks. The diamond shape of our logo is representative of authority and power and widely associated with the “most difficult” areas that we love to ski and mountain bike. The diamond is formed by images of peaks and banks, which are iconic to the lifestyle we live and breathe.
Whether taking in the view from the summit of Long’s Peak, heading out in search of new single track, venturing out for a day hike, searching the trees for powder stash, paddling out of an eddy, or wading into a stream in hopes that a fish will rise, we are drawn to the magic that happens between “Peaks and Banks”.
